The Empire
Named after the street that founder,
Ormide J. Armstrong, grew up on, the Boss Street Brass Band is a 7-piece New Orleans style Funk brass band, consisting of powerful horns to get any audience dancing. While maintaining the roots of traditional New Orleans second-line brass bands, Boss Street has a unique sound that incorporates various genres of music, including RnB, Soul, Funk, Classic Rock, and Pop classics into an unforgettable brass band twist—offering something in store for anyone. More importantly, much of BSBB music is focused in on our own original works, adding to our unique and fresh flavor. BSBB has played for private parties, weddings, various clubs, and even major jazz festivals.

Inspired by the music of Roy Hargrove, Robert Glasper, Braxton Cook, and various others, The Empire is a 6-piece fusion jazz group, pulling from some of Austin’s top jazz musicians.
The group incorporates strong grooves, focused group interaction, and virtuosic improvisation to keep your ears intrigued and your foot tapping. Our music is characterized by odd and shifting time signatures, elaborate chord progressions, melodies, and counter-melodies, all while maintaining its modern jazz roots.
